Our CFO, John Orlando, was asked to be a guest on the podcast “CFO Thought Leader.” John spoke to Jack Sweeney, host of CFO Thought Leader, about his career journey and how it led him to Centage. He details his transition from accounting into CFO leadership in a B2B space, and offers insights to finance professionals on what to expect when working for a small company versus a larger enterprise.
“In a smaller company, you’re able to see everything that’s happening. And you can make an impact because you’re involved more and become interested in marketing and HR and sales and development and so forth.”
In addition, John delves into the risks and benefits of adopting a subscription model with a cloud-based solution.
“At first, your P&L will very likely take a hit because when you operate as an on-premises software business, what you sell becomes recognized as net sales immediately—as opposed to when you’re selling a three-year contract or a four- or five-year deal, when the revenue is going to be recognized over the life span of the contract.”
