National Ice Cream Day. National Girlfriend Day. National Golf Lover’s Day. On any given day of the week, you’ll likely find National “something” Day trending on Twitter or Instagram and sometimes, you’ll find a deal for free coffee or a discount on soccer tickets in celebration of their national days. So, it is no surprise that for budgeting nerds, there is a National Spreadsheet Day which takes place every year on October 17th.
For many, National Spreadsheet Day is one to celebrate, because certain jobs and tasks would be nearly impossible to do without spreadsheets. The first spreadsheet program, VisiCalc, invented in 1979, paved the way for innovation in personal computer applications. In fact, Apple founder Steve Jobs is even quoted as saying, ““VisiCalc .. propelled … the success [of Apple] … more than any other single event.” VisiCalc revolutionized the way finance professionals budget and plan.
In honor of National Spreadsheet Day and as a provider of next-generation budgeting and planning software, Centage Corporation is excited to celebrate an invention many of us couldn’t imagine living without. On October 17th, we will name our new training center after Dan Bricklin and Bob Frankston, the inventors of VisiCalc, and are thrilled to have them join us at our headquarters to speak about their invention. And don’t worry, you can catch all the fun on our Facebook Live stream beginning at 11:30am EDT on our Facebook Page. The ceremony will include a ribbon cutting and an informative and engaging presentation by Mr. Bricklin entitled “The Birth of the Spreadsheet.”
